Bigpoint launches the world’s first browser games for consoles
(31.07.2008, 08:56:59) For the first time ever, Hamburg-based Bigpoint GmbH will give users the chance to play its browser games on their games consoles. Bigpoint will be presenting a browser game for Play Station 3 (PS3) in its first playable demo version at this year?s Games Convention in Leipzig. Visitors to the convention will be able to experience at first hand what it feels like to play browser games on a console against other consoles or against a PC.
This innovation confirms Bigpoint position as a pioneer of technology
development in the games market. Gamers will still of course be able to
play all Bigpoint’s browser games online as simply as always, without
the need to buy a CD and with no complicated installation. This
existing model will not be modified going forward. What is new is the
option, which represents a major goal for Bigpoint, of playing with PS3
and in future also with Xbox 360 – as well as with UMTS mobile phones
in the medium term – on one and the same platform. So fans of browser
games will for the first time be able to play on consoles as well.
Heiko Hubertz, Bigpoint founder and CEO, confidently expects
great things from this new business area: “The launch of the Sony
Playstation 3 is opening up whole new perspectives for the industry.
This is a console that is equipped as standard with a network
connection, WLAN and a flash-compatible browser, a ideal configuration
for convenient, hugely enjoyable gaming. But on the other hand, PS3
games typically cost around 50€ straight from the shop. Our games in
contrast can be accessed directly from a browser, free of charge after
a free registration. A huge range of fast and furious games are then
available. Going forward, Bigpoint will also be represented by
flash-games accessing in comfort from the living room console – with
free registration as usual, and ready to play right after download.”
Bigpoint’s almost 30 million users illustrate the rapidly
expanding demand for high-quality multi-player online games – a trend
that is set to continue on the back of this new technology.
