Fight of Ages
(28.04.2008, 13:29:11) Most of you will probably remember the exclusive beta code give-away we ran in late March. Thanks to our readers and a couple of other beta testers Fight of Ages has now been released as a gold version in Dutch and English. We have had the chance to talk to Rob de Wit about himself and the development of his text-based RPG.
Galaxy-News: Hi Rob! Please introduce yourself to our readers.
Rob: My
name is Rob de
Wit and I’m a 22 years old student from The Netherlands.
My
interests are making games. I don’t play them allot but when I do,
I play RPG’s. That’s
also were my inspiration for creating Fight of Ages (FoA) came from.
I spent about 4 years on this game!![]()
Galaxy-News: You recently launched a brand new version of Fight of Ages. How did
the community react to the game so far? What feedback are you
getting?
Rob: Well most of them like the game very much! I’m glad that I made a game which people love to play.
Here are some qoutes of players:
| "By far, one of the BEST text based RPG's I've ever seen - very detailed, and excellent coded - with so many great aspects. Once I started playing I was hooked, instantly getting addicted to its brilliance - much respect to the coders, obviously there's been quite alot of complex scripting going on" |
|
- Norhede |
| "hahaha, lemme tell you i just quited playing World of warcraft! That should say enough" |
| - Tricore |
Galaxy-News: What does your daily work for Fight of Ages look like? What are you responsible for?
Rob: The
main responsibility
is to keep players loving the game. To do so I give them all the help
and support that they need. It is also important to create new
features and items to make sure no one ever loses interest.
Galaxy-News: In how far is UnitedGames able to support you with your duties? Why
did you decide to team up with them?
Rob: I’m
just a student with no connections in the gaming world at all.
UnitedGames helps me with bringing my game to a higher level,
something I couldn’t have done by myself.
Galaxy-News: What's the community’s influence on future development plans?
Rob: If they have nice ideas we can discuss them. More input, better ideas!
When I have an idea but don’t know if the players like it, I just ask them what they think about it. It always gives me a better sight on the player`s expectations.
Galaxy-News: What is your personal highlight within the game? What are you most
proud of?
Rob: I’m
the most proud of all the players that play FoA. You can imagine that
when you put every non-spend hour on developing a game,
it makes you very proud when it is finally launched with success.
Galaxy-News: What technology are you using and why?
Rob: The
main programming language is PHP, as in most of the browser-based
RPG’s. To make sure the code works at his highest performance we
use AJAX, which takes care of the irritating page refreshes with
every step you take.
Galaxy-News: How many people are currently playing and what are your future plans for new features and yourself?
Rob: We have launched FoA a few days ago in The Netherlands and already 300 people are playing it, we hope this growth will the next couple of months.
I
have enough ideas left for the next 3 years. There are so many cool
things to add to the game, it will never be finished.
Galaxy-News: Thanks for the interview and good luck for the future!
Rob: Thank you too! By the way, thanks to all the Galaxy-News beta testers, they have done a good job!
