Massive update & API released

(18.08.2007, 00:03:50) Since we last visited the round based strategy game Weewar.com back in June, a lot has happened. Back then, they had about 1000 registered users - 2 months later they have a whooping 12000+ with more and more people signing up every day. Quite an amazing growth rate for a game that is still strictly invite-only.

After our initial interview with Alex, Weewar got featured on various sites around the net - and not just gaming sites like Kotaku, but also more general technology blogs like Techcrunch and Mashable. Weewar just presses all the right buttons, seemingly leaving behind the confines of typical strategy browser games.

And it does play nice with others, too. Weewar is influenced and supported by it's growing community which created the dedicated Weewar wiki, owned and maintained by the players. To empower the community even further Weewar has just released a freely available API, granting access to a very rich set of data. It took only 2 days for the first prototype of a powerful user generated statistics application to emerge, the first to use the new API.

The community is also actively helping building core features. A recent update introduced a slew of new units, including air and naval forces, all of which had been tested and balanced by selected players first. Even the art work was co-created and inspired by individual players.

If you are a developer or just interested in playing with the data check out the API specifications.

To start playing, simply request an invite. Just make sure to mention Galaxy News and your account will be fast tracked!

And if you like what you see you now have the chance to win one of two 2 months Pro Accounts. Simply tell us why you're playing Weewar and send it to: win@galaxy-news.net including both your Weewar and Galaxy-News nick.

Note: You must be a registered member of Galaxy News to participate. If you aren't registered with us click here to proceed
