World's top 100 Browser MMOs by active players
(11.07.2012, 15:25:00) Today mmofacts launched the public beta of a really unique new section. Our top MMO rankings are now including the 100 most-played Browser MMOs in the world.
To provide this ranking we estimate the active player numbers for each and every title in our database, using publicly available data provided by publishers themselves as well as data gathered by our market research partners. Thanks to our advanced methodology that has been advised by several industry professionals the results look really promising:
- With more than 3M active players The Settlers Online is leading our first Browser MMO top 100, followed by Ikariam and Habbo Hotel with 2M active players each.
- Ranks 4 to 10 are highly competitive. Grepolis, Ogame, Travian, Howrse, Farmerama, Tribal Wars and My Free Zoo all bring in around 1M active players.
- It's good to see that the top rankings are evenly distributed amongst many of the world's leading publishers with only InnoGames and UbiSoft (incl. Owlient) having more than one title ranked in the top 10.

What are active player numbers?
Active player numbers measure the amount of unique users who logged into a certain title in the last month.
How accurate are estimated player numbers?
We are aware that our methodology has some weaknesses. We believe that player numbers for Browser MMOs primarily offered through portals or third-party websites tend to be too low. Furthermore we don't have sufficient data for the Chinese market. We are working hard sourcing additional data in order to improve the quality of our estimates.
What's coming next?
We expect the beta test to last for about 3 to 6 months. We are planning to introduce additional active player rankings for Download and Mobile MMOs during this time as well as greater data detail. Please be aware that estimated player numbers are subject to change! As we encounter errors we will be making corrections without further notice.
